At The Intersection of Yoga, Christianity, and Quantum Physics

The Story of Babaji, Jesus Christ, and You in a Technological Time

Over the course of millennia, a few souls have ventured deep into the heart of existence to bring back treasures for everyone else living on earth.

This time calls for examination of that wisdom, and those messages from wherever they emerge — from any corner of the Earth, philosophy, religion, that these fountains of universal knowledge point us to the truth, so to say, in the same direction — which is into ourselves, to our higher self, our inner nature, and to our recognition of the power resting in each one of us, in our interconnectedness to the whole universe.

When the human genome was sequenced for the first time in the last few decades, more information has come about what our genes are actually used for, how our DNA serves us, and one recognition of modern science, similar to the phrase in neuroscience, that “we only use 10 percent or a small portion of our brain,” so the same with our DNA, that modern science says that we have what is called or termed “junk DNA.”

3 percent to 8 percent of DNA is said to be “active” or used in processes that science can understand, the other 90 to 95 percent or so of DNA is either said to be “vestigial” not serving a direct purpose anymore, like our tailbone or our appendix. This raises a question of how we evolve in a literal sense, according to the laws of nature, and beyond how we evolve as individuals, beyond our DNA, psychologically or spiritually.

Back to wisdom, most of us know something about the story of Jesus, and his role in establishing a way of being, living by example, being kind to others, forgiveness etc, beyond Judeo-Christian doctrines. Regardless of your religion or lack thereof, it’s worth noting that Jesus Christ plays a role as the most well-known figure in the modern world.

Let’s reframe the Christ figure and the consciousness that this figure represents in an informed context beyond the place where he lived, beyond the empires that have claimed his teachings, or even preachers who explain the truths that he taught. While some may debate the historical evidence of Jesus, regardless, he remains, his story remains, a powerful example of what humanity is reaching towards in the spirit of brotherhood, sisterhood, unity, compassion, and togetherness.

To relate this story to ancient India, many sages, seers, and prophets emerged throughout the ages since earliest recorded history. Many of these teachings, which we now collectively call Hinduism and yoga philosophy, most integrated through works like the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita which express similar, if not identical, truths that appear in metaphor in the Bible.

One great sage emerging in the modern era called Babaji, which means “beloved father,” established a connection between the yoga tradition emerging from the high Himalayas and the often misunderstood teachings of Jesus Christ. In unifying these two traditions from East and West, what people call Christianity and Hinduism, which are mere labels, a recognition of the heart of humankind expands the perspective of the purpose and value of religion, what it is, and what it isn’t. Be done with patriarchal control agendas, fear-based dogmas, and divisions of class and creed. This is about you and your experience which no one can determine for you.

The reminder of Christ, and Christianity’s great misunderstanding, is not to put Jesus the man on a pedestal, but to remind us that believe it or not, we are all capable of the same state of Christ consciousness, which is “the only begotten son,” accessible to all of us.

The word Christ comes from the Greek “Christos”, a title meaning ”anointed,” in the literal context, doused in aromatic oils for health and sanitation, in the religious context, honored and consecrated. The physical universe emerged from a pure idea, from Christ consciousness.

From Psalms 82:6, in the words of Christ,“Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.“ Regardless of what Sam Harris and the Stanford biologists say, you have free will to decide what to do with that.

Now back to the East, Babaji brought the message of Kriya yoga, an ancient secret yoga practice now ready to be released for the “salvation of mankind.” As a modern legend, Christ visits Babaji in the Himalayas, and says, “My followers have forgotten the art of divine inner communion. Outwardly they do good works, but they have lost sight of the most important of my teachings, ‘to seek the kingdom of God first,” so to say,the people are ready to meditate now. Kriya translates to action, as in something you can do, with the same root as “creation”, “crystal,” “Krishna,” and “Christ.”

Since much of meditation these days is considered non-action, Kriya offers a way for busy people to take action directed toward producing calmness, so you stay awake and focused while feeling better and better during your meditation practice. To live from a place where we are, in Yogananda’s words, “calmly active and actively calm.” Kriya then, is a meditation technique, and a way of life, that accelerates one’s spiritual growth. Kriya was lost during the dark ages due to, as Yogananda said, “priestly secrecy and man’s indifference.” Through Yogananda, the technique of Kriya Yogaand the teachings of yoga have been shared with millions in the West.

Kriya teachers encourage people to keep their day job, continue practicing their religion if they have one, and in a world of increasing scientific religiosity, this practice can be verified by those masters who have control over biological functions like heartbeat.

In the 1970’s, Swami Rama became the first person to slow his heartbeat to zero in an American lab setting. Many have described meditation as practice for death, exiting the body, but this gives new meaning to Saint Paul’s experience proclaiming, “I die daily.”

Kriya is the easiest, most effective, and most scientific avenue of approach to the Infinite. In contrast to the slow, uncertain ‘bullock cart’ theological path to God, Kriya may justly be called the ‘airplane’ route.” – Yogananda

When Nietzsche said “God is dead,” it’s not because he was an atheist, but because science had outpaced religion in its definitions of the dominant worldview, yet now we see at the highest levels that science points its way back to the sacred.

In the modern world, dominated by a materialistic worldview, a result of man’s success in recognizing how to harness the laws of the physical universe through great scientists like Newton, Einstein, and others, the 18th century Western Enlightenment-era ideology of reason and intellect which modern science hangs its hat on, now expands into realms merging or verging on the mystical, like neuroscience and quantum physics. Even in science, we are coming to a reckoning with this materialistic worldview which has perpetuated for the last few centuries.

In simple terms, we are moving from an awareness of physical matter as the dominant reality into an awareness of energy.

We observe that atoms are mostly empty space and even the subatomic particles are vibrating waves of energy, and according to E=mc2, all energy and even matter are convertible into light. At least that’s the current understanding.

Through neuroscience, we are becoming aware of how an energy practice like Kriya works to move energy through the spine and brain. When you breathe and when your heart beats, cerebrospinal fluid rhythmically pumps neurotransmitters and hormones through the center of the spinal column to the rest of the nervous system, to all the vital organs and the brain.

This movement of cerebrospinal fluid when directed up to the brain, with calm, slow, even breathing while being as still as you can, placing the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, and awareness at the top of the nose, allows for the energy of the heart to connect with the brain, and start to circulate the energy of the whole body into the brain, which reduces the effort of the heart requiring less blood to be pumped, slowing the heart rate, leading to profound relaxation and rejuvenation.

The spine has 33 vertebrae, akin to the 33 rungs of Jacob’s ladder and 33 years in the life of Christ, 12 cranial nerves and 12 disciples, 7 sacred seals and 7 chakras corresponding to the 7 nerve ganglia along the spine. When we see ancient spirituality as a metaphor for the temple of the body, then the “kingdom of God” within you is no longer a metaphor. In other words, we are walking around withthe most advanced technology on Earth and it’s not in your pocket.

“The end of all learning is to know God, and from that, to love and imitate Him.” — John Milton

To update our knowledge base in a way that bridges differing ideologies that are often in conflict, whether it be different religions, cultures, scientific worldviews, or ways of being, there’s enough room for everyone to feel the wonder of where we are now, and why this information when applied, changes the way we see the world.

In a world that values individuals above all else, let us recognize the connection between the ancient and the modern, to regard everything in our experience as holy. To see that even modern scientists have taken the role of priests wearing white robes, as they preach the gospel of Carl Sagan, “explore the vastness of the cosmos.”

What this all points back to is, who are we? Who are you? Who am I?

How we can recognize the truth of our being, beyond what anyone tells us, beyond books, beyond religions, beyond science, beyond doctrines of any kind.

You don’t need that, and yet, it all starts pointing in the same direction — being a better version of you, recognizing that your happiness, your ability to be of service, your freedom brings benefit to the world.

Standing in your power, knowing your divine nature, cleaning off the illusion that you’re anything but a child of the universe, your brain has more connections than stars in the Milky Way, and feeling your own sacredness in your simplicity as you look back up to the celestial heavens in wonder. Walking the earth with humility as a king or a queen in service to all beings, in service to your higher nature, to God, to that source of Love in your heart that knows no limitation.

Awakening to that higher consciousness brings love, liberation, happiness, bliss, which is deathless and eternal. Bringing that light forth from within you, this is the message of the great sages of the Earth. To carry a torch, lighting the darkest places within yourself and the world around you, being fearless in facing your truth, coming back to your heart to know truth as love.

It all starts here with loving, honoring, valuing, respecting your higher nature, letting go of the guilt that needs to please or help or fix. Remembering your wholeness, that you are everything you need.

Nothing more is needed, and the joy you experience from the world in people and things directs you back to that source of love within you. The world is here for you to enjoy, reuniting with this cosmic abundance. May you take from this the best which you can receive, that is of benefit to you, to find that still-point between peace and power. Om shanti. Peace be with you. Aho.
