The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

When the Buddha said “before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water, and after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water,” he pointed to the idea that we experience transformation which nobody else needs to see or know until they are ready to experience the same shift within themselves — and that the duties which our roles in life require of us may also stay the same.

“The revolution will not be televised” because it cannot be televised, a shift in consciousness is beyond the physical. Gil Scott-Heron, one of the fathers of hip-hop, shares a vision with a personal yet universal message that we feel, the drive to create and be part of a shared positive change on the order of epic proportions, while remembering the reason to “be the change” is that every time we point our finger out there, we have three fingers pointing back at us.

We see the side effects of this revolution in the physical world, as humanity’s ability to live in an inclusive, united state of togetherness produces harmonious societies with high standards of living that place value on individual health, happiness, and self-actualization in the context of global citizenship, technological efficiency, and material abundance. As more people remember this goal, governments and societies shift in that direction in response to mass awakening, with less resistance to increasing persistence.

Through this revolution in awareness, we transcend the common psychological paradox of “the spiritual and physical being at odds yet dependent on each other,” giving meaning to existence, where we dance between planes of consciousness with flow and grace. We have our feet on the ground and our head in the heavens, and our heart as the bridge made of love, connecting us to one another as we build our way to this higher place, the world responds to us in kind.

The logic being “this is connected to that,” the physical and mental are in direct communication, and where we place our identity installs the software required to manage such a situation as we find ourselves on Earth with a greater sense of clarity and lightness.

As we surrender to our experience, loving what is, beyond rationality of “being right” or “in control” with the conscious mind, the world unfolds in more beautiful ways that we can imagine. Love every second, it’s yours to live and let go, into the freedom of this moment.
